At dBcover we believe our solutions are able to correct any harsh acoustic environment no matter how difficult is the challenge. In order to proof it, we decided to insulate and condition one of the most complex spaces to do so: A metal container.
A metal container is a challenging space to insulate and condition due to both materials and geometry. Its metal walls show a poor insulation at mid-high frequencies and barely inexistent at low frequencies. In addition, these walls act as resonators once excited with noise. Its geometry of parallel walls allows generation of standing waves in the 3-axis. As we do not like easy challenges, our container has a cubic geometry, what makes it even tougher.
To achieve our goal, we used our airborne sound insulation solutions in a Gypsum+MDF boards system without profile (stud). With this solution we create a spring-mass system that allows us to increase the poor insulation of one leaf partition based on metal. As we know one leaf partitions behave according to mass law, and metal is a very light building material.
In order to decouple the Gypsum and MDF boards, we used dBsonic SP 80/40 stack directly on the container walls. dBsonic SP 80/40 besides working as an elastic element, it acts as an absorbent in the chamber generated between the boards and the walls.
The Gypsum+MDF boards behave as the mass in the spring-mass system increasing the insulation curve. Between them we install dBsonic HM-3D to increase the mass, decouple and damp the bending of the boards at the coincidence frequencies.
For the floor, we used our impact insulation solution dBimpact CNT 5.0 below the carpet.
It damps the footfall impact and reduces airborne sound transmission. The carpet absorbs reverberation inside the space.
Once insulated we conditioned the space with our absorption solutions dBcomfort HP50 y dBcomfort Scure. Thanks to their open cell multi-layered structure, they reduce the eco of the space (reverberation).
The final result obtained with these systems is an airborne sound insulation of ΔRW=16 dB, and a reverberation time reduction down to RT60 < 1s, delivering an impressive acoustic comfort.
The video also shows other effective building systems based on our solutions for regular configurations.
